the latest offering from san franciscos icee hot label finds the young imprint officially welcoming another artist to its gradually expanding roster. that said, contakt isnt exactly a stranger. the michigan-reared, new york-based producer is one of the founders and resident djs at brooklyns turrbotax® party, which has long been a sort of sister party to icee hot. contakt has previously released music for respected outposts like local action, grizzly, and dutty artz, but nobody else and tessera 04 find him taking an important step forward as an artist, delivering tunes that are richer and more really realized than anything from his past. particularly on nobody else, contakts flair for big-room melody remains intact, but he takes notes from classic kms, filling out the songs cresting synths with a full-bodied bassline, a hooky vocal sample and a sturdy rhythmic underpinning. tessera 04 goes deeper, channeling maurizio while delving headlong into a dense cloud of synths and maintaining a steady sense of forward momentum. on the flipside, icee hot resident ghosts on tape continues his recent hot streak, infusing nobody else with punchy drumwork and a potent rave sensibility. detroit legend robert hood then rounds out the release, transforming tessera 04 into a pulsing and purring slice of heady analog techno.

slowly but surely spencer parkers work them label has been gaining a deserved reputation as a no nonsense house and techno imprint thanks to releases from the likes of pittsburgh track authority and dana ruh. now it is the turn of the s:vt who serves up one track, basement sweat, complete with a remix, which will then be followed by a separate 12 inch featuring two remixes from arttu. the original track pairs classic, piled-on-top-of-each other claps with a freewheeling melody that runs up and down the scale. the bottom end is streamlined and techno inclined, bringing with it plenty of raw warehouse vibes. the no strings attached mix loses the melody and ups the percussive ante, chopping up and slicing out patterns as that bottom end continues to burrow on.

the guys from audision are back with their next release in coloured vinyl! they produced chimes 1 for their live-set and it was much appreciated by the crowd. their new syntie roland jd 800 sounded crystal clear in their studio, but when they practiced for their live set in frankurt last year, all of a sudden it played a different sound � this was a magic moment which had to be recorded at once. the typcial audision device is: let the machines do the talking. and that is the also the story of chimes 2 *away* was the beatless track from their last years release up & away. so no one else but gez varley aka g-man created a dancefloor monster out of it. where can we start, when we talk about such a genius like gez varley. he was co-founder of the legendary lfo (warp records) duo. he wrote music history with his partner mark bell. under his solo project g-man, he released on labels like wir, i220, force inc or swim. *quo vadis* is still one of the most important all-time favourite techno tracks. last but not least a typical rough and deep house mix came out of christopher raus machines. the smallville member released on labels like, pampa, derive, aim, mule� and delivered a great track for this wonderful release. all in all - a must have!

another storming, ranging ep from the new yorkers: heavy-duty machine funk for the dancefloor, charged and swinging with old-school chicago vibes. the a-side house bobs from tearaway to discofied to rawly jaunty, the techno on the flip from dug-in and twisted to a more wide-open excursiveness. to start, the soulful rug-cutter down runs a sublimated tribalism beneath lovely, dubwise kick drums and sultry female vocal, heavy skies is lo-fi funk, a stand-out, the bass and brilliant percussion-work of the title track crosses us garage with new uk styles (a little joy o to its bottom end). discreet time meshes vintage chicago drum programming with the filtered house of someone like i:cube, and to close, plateau, a widescreen, experimental bubblers, with reaching fxd synths and shuffling snares and hi-hats... perhaps their best yet.
